Who I Am

The last name is German, but I’m a purple-blooded American. At nine, I recognized that I didn’t want to be a superhero when I grew up. Neither did I want to be a policeman, President, nor welder. Nope I wanted to be the next Harry Carey.

As a Kid

I grew up in the heartland of America, Petersburg, Nebraska to be exact. Unlike the rest of the kids, we weren’t a farm family. Nope, I was a fourth generation hardware man. Growing up in the store, I earned my keep starting at about age three putting nuts on bolts while watching the Disney Channel on the demo TV’s. Then, Disney turned into WGN and ESPN (even HBO when dad wasn’t paying attention). We had career day in the third grade and I had to choose, so I chose Broadcasting and never looked back.

My oldest sister Jasmine attended the University of Nebraska and in 1997, my other sister, Lacy, and I visited for little siblings weekend. We took a tour of HuskerVision, where the guide told me Broadcasting students could work. That ended my career search. I finished high school while participating in everything I thought could possibly help me become a sportscaster.

College

College isn’t cheap, and I paid for it myself. So, I became a Resident Assistant, worked a couple retail jobs, became an office assistant in the Business College, operated cameras for the local baseball team, and got internships at radio and TV Stations. Then, I got a flier saying that HuskerVision was hiring. I was selected as one of 18 competitive interns out of 100+ applicants. I earned an hourly part-time position after the first year. While at HuskerVision, I worked as the Set Manager for Coaches’ Shows, Captain of the Setup Crew, Producer, Editor, Sound Operator and more. We had big screen shows for every sport and I worked in just about every position.

I got an internship with Fox Sports Rocky Mountain  in Denver during college. I met a cute Archaeologist who later became my wife. When I reluctantly returned to Lincoln for my senior year, I smashed my way through a heavy schedule and finished college with a Major in Journalism and Minors in Marketing, English and Communications.

Professional

Radio (and just a little TV) was the gig for me from 2008-2012. My titles were Marketing Consultant, Production Director, Traffic Director, and Air Staff (sometimes all at once). In 2012, I began my work as the Business Development Manager for Blizzard Internet Marketing. I still take every play-by-play and videography gig I can get on the side.

2015 will mark my 7th year as an IAABO Varsity basketball official, 6th year as a football referee, and 5th year as a baseball umpire. In my spare time I love riding my motorcycle, looking at cars, watching sports, playing what’s available, and country music.

My daughter, Evelyn was born on March 30th, 2015.
